Embraer e Boeing vis-à-vis Airbus e Bombardier: quais as implicações para o Brasil?

Abstract

The financial support from the Canadian Government, intended directly for Bombardier (its leading aircraft manufacturer) in te last three years, not only served as a bailour, but also helped the enterprise increase the sales of models from the CSeries, its new commercial jet. One of these models competes with a product from Embraer and another, whit onde from Boeing.This situation has generated reactions from Brazil, with the installation of a panel at the World Trade Organization (WTO), and from Boeing, which triggered antitrust agencies of the United States of America (USA). The final result of the WTO panel, however, is still pending. In October 2017, Airbus became a partner of Bombardier in the CSeries. However, in December of the same year, Boeing and Embraer expressed their intention to form a joint-venture. This article reviews the processes behind these recent events and suggests possible developments that may affect the Brazilian aviation industry and the roles played by the government and by BNDES.
