<description>Title: Novo mercado de mobilidade aérea urbana: desenvolvimentos recentes e desafios para os eVTOLs e para o BNDES - parte 1
Authors: Gomes, Sérgio Bittencourt Varella; Baran, Renato; Vital, Marcos Henrique Figueiredo; Araujo, Breno Cerqueira
Abstract: Whenever ground transportation means fall short of requirements, urban air mobility resorts to air charter helicopters, private and/or military aircraft etc. in order to accomplish specific missions. The nascent advanced air mobility (AAM) encompasses urban air mobility (UAM). For this latter case, electrical vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft appear to be a great promise for the near future. Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) is already supporting this novel transportation segment, given its traditional industrial commitments and the role played in connection with New Industry Brazil (NIB), the country’s public policy for industry. This study has two parts. Part 1 presents an overview of recent eVTOL developments, highlighting challenges, and advancements regarding aircraft configurations, use cases and technologies such as electrical propulsion, flight autonomy etc., including a comparison with helicopters. Part 2, to be published later, will address market size projections, certification challenges, and the integration of eVTOLs into the urban airspace, concluding with some future trends.

      <title>Retomada da política industrial brasileira</title>
      <link>http://web.bndes.gov.br/bib/jspui/handle/1408/29068</link>
<description>Title: Retomada da política industrial brasileira
Authors: Maia, Guilherme Baptista da Silva; Daudt, Gabriel Marino; Willcox, Luiz Daniel
Abstract: Industrial policy has been a cornerstone of developed economies. On some occasions it has taken explicit forms - such as subsidies and regulatory constraints - while on others it has manifested more subtly, through the promotion of research and innovation or strategic public procurement. In recent years, there has been a renewed emphasis on explicit industrial policies designed to secure strategic competitiveness, driven by the advancement of digital-based Industry 4.0, the imperative to tackle the climate emergency, and the grwing need to enhance the resilience of critical supply chains. Thus, New Industry Brazil (NIB) emerges within this evolving global context.

<title>Descarbonização na indústria siderúrgica: oportunidade para agregar valor e aumentar a competitividade</title>
      <link>http://web.bndes.gov.br/bib/jspui/handle/1408/29067</link>
Abstract: The steel industry plays a strategic role in the transition toward a low-carbon economy. On the one hand, the sector emits the most carbon in heavy industry. On the other hand, it supplies essential inputs for renewable technologies. Transformation pathways for steelmaking to a low-carbon activity highlight Brazil’s comparative advantages, positioning the country to assume a prominent role in supplying metallic materials for decarbonization. Brazil’s mineral competitiveness and its differentiated access to low-carbon energy resources, such as biofuels and hydrogen, drive significant investments in developing new productive capabilities. This study analyzes the dynamics of the domestic steel market and international trade, the factors and outlook driving the competitiveness of Brazilian steel plants, and outlines the opportunities that regulatory changes in developed countries may generate.
