Apoio do BNDES à agroindústria: retrospectiva e visão de futuro

Abstract

Este artigo apresenta o histórico do apoio do BNDES ao complexo agroindustrial e mostra sua visão sobre os temas que deverão estar em sua agenda futura. Por quase trinta anos após sua criação, em 1952, a atuação do BNDES no apoio ao agronegócio mostrou-se bastante tímida. A partir da década de 1980, com a responsabilidade de executar o Proálcool, seu papel começa a ser relevante no setor. A década de 1990 consolida essa tendência, destacando-se o apoio à indústria de proteína animal. Ao longo dos anos 2000, houve o fortalecimento do apoio às cooperativas agroindustriais e a internacionalização de grandes empresas brasileiras. Novos desafios se apresentam no horizonte e farão parte da agenda do Banco, destacando-se a busca pela produção ambientalmente sustentável, concomitantemente a um expressivo incremento de demanda em função do aumento populacional no mundo.

This paper presents the history of the BNDES’ support for the agroindustrial sector and shows its vision on issues that are expected to be on agenda in the future. For the first thirty years after its creation, in 1952, the BNDES’ efforts to provide support for agribusiness were rather timid. As of the 1980s, with the responsibility of running the Proálcool program, the BNDES’ became relevant. The 1990s consolidated this trend, with support for the animal protein industry taking a leading role. Throughout the 2000s, support for agroindustrial cooperatives was strengthened and large-scale Brazilian companies were internationalized. New challenges have surfaced on the horizon and will become part of the Bank’s agenda, especially the pursuit for environmentally sustainable production, along with a significant increase in demand due to worldwide population growth.
